Realtimepublishers Announces the Immediate Release of The Developer Shortcut Guide to SUSE LINUX for the Open Source Community

Industry expert John Featherly authors three-part eBook on developing enterprise-level Java and .NET applications for the SUSE LINUX platform

SAN FRANCISCO, CA—July 14, 2005—Realtimepublishers, the worldwide leader in corporate sponsored ePublishing, announced the immediate release of The Developer Shortcut Guide to SUSE LINUX. Written for experienced developers who are looking to get a quick start on writing open source–based enterprise applications, this guide offers the most up-to-date information on the capabilities of SUSE LINUX as a development environment for enterprise .NET and Java applications. Authored by industry expert John Featherly and sponsored by Novell, the eBook is offered at no charge on Content Central (http://cc.realtimepublishers.com/portal.aspx?pubid=339) and Novell’s developer Web site (http://developer.novell.com/ebook/suse/).

“As more developers are considering the move to an open source platform for enterprise application development, there is an obvious need for a strong resource that can make known the tools available for that migration,” explained author John Featherly. “The Developer Shortcut Guide to SUSE LINUX starts with a tour of developer features in SUSE LINUX Professional and then shows the construction of an enterprise application in parallel Java J2EE and .NET implementations. The guide stays focused on getting quick results leveraged by the time-saving features of SUSE LINUX Professional and the growing selection of open source application foundation products.”

"Development and deployment of applications on SUSE LINUX holds great promise, and Novell wants to make it as easy as possible for developers to leverage the open source platform,” said Chris Cooper, director of Novell Developer Services. “We wanted to participate in this project because there were no guides offering a consolidated list of tools, IDE's, and libraries available to the application developer who wanted to start developing on the SUSE LINUX platform. Sponsorship of the eBook The Developer Shortcut Guide to SUSE LINUX will help Novell help developers.”

As with all Realtimepublishers eBook releases, the guide will be written in real-time and eBook chapters will be published and posted monthly as soon as they are completed, ensuring the most timely, topic-specific information available.

“We are extremely excited to get this guide into the hands of the Linux developer community and feel certain that it will offer application developers a strong resource for learning how to utilize SUSE LINUX as a development environment,” explained Realtimepublishers founder and series editor, Sean Daily. “In order to keep The Developer Shortcut Guide to SUSE LINUX eBook in line with the open source community ethos of making information free, we are especially happy that Novell has agreed to be the primary sponsor.”
